Hand baggage

In Full Flex and Standard Flex booking class two pieces allowed. Maximum weight per piece: 12 kg
> one piece of hand baggage maximum 56x 45x 25 cm or foldable garment bag maximum 57x 54x 15 cm
> one laptop sized bag, handbag or briefcase.

Every passenger must be able to lift the bags into the overhead lockers in the aircraft cabin unaided.

In Saver Flex booking class one piece of hand luggage, maximum 56x 45x 25 cm, max. 8kg allowed.


Liquids in hand baggage

On all flights limited amounts of liquids may be taken on board flights. Liquid and gel-based products such as healthcare products and cosmetics may be carried in hand luggage as long as they comply with the following regulations:

> Containers with liquids and similar products may contain up to 100 ml. Printed maximum quantity applies.

> All containers must be carried in a transparent resealable plastic bag (zip-locked-bag). Maximum capacity of this bag is 1 litre.

> Not more than one bag per person.

> Plastic bag must be presented separately at the security check. Please remove it from your hand luggage and screen it seperately.

Medication as well as special foodstuffs (e.g. baby food) which are needed during flight can be transported separately. All items have to be presented at security check as well.


Duty free liquids in hand baggage

Passengers may purchase any liquid item at every EU airport or on board after they have cleared security checks. All items have to be carried in a tamper-evident bag and the receipt is attached to the bag.

Restrictions apply for passengers with connecting flights. Liquids purchased on day of travel at any EU airport or on board the aircraft are allowed to carry the tamper-evident bag through security check. All products have to be inside the bag.

Important! Any liquids purchased at any airport outside of the EU cannot be carried through the security check. We strongly recommend to purchase liquids at EU airports or on board only.


Checked baggage

These are the free allowances for baggage you check in for any RHEINAIR or RheinJet flight.

Free baggage allowance on all routes :

> Full Flex & Standard Flex fare class : 2 pieces 23 kg each (total: 56 kg) and plus 1 golf bag

> Saver Flex fare class: One bag maximum weight 20 kg (total 20 kg)

Please note that we will not accept a bag heavier than 32 kg. Any bag heavier than 23 kg will be charged with additional 10 € service charge. Maximum dimension per piece (H+W+L): 158 cm. Any bags exceeding this dimensions have to be notified before check-in.

Musical instruments and tv news cameras are will be handled as exeptions..

Infants ages under two years of age have no free baggage allowance. A pushchair or baby buggy will be carried free of charge.

Disabled passengers can check in a wheelchair or other walking aid additional to the free baggage allowance.

Transport of animals is not possible.


.Excess and special baggage

Any items over your free checked allowance will be charged as excess baggage.

> We recommend that you pre-book and pre-pay online for your excess baggage during booking process or before check-in at airport. You will receive a discount by pre-paying online.

> You can also pay for excess baggage at the airport. No discount is possible here. Payment has to be made after checking in.

> Please make sure you arrive at check-in at least 30 minutes before departure if you have excess baggage with you.

Pre-book online during booking process or afterwards*: 5 € per kg one way.

Pre-book via our Service-Center*: 5 € per kg one way .

Without notice or payment at the airport : 10 € per kg one way.

Baggage above 32 kg will not be transported.

* until 12 hours prior to departure.


Sporting equipment

In addition to the free baggage allowance we transport items of special sporting equipment at 23 kg maximum. Any additional kilo will be charged according to excess baggage rules. Every sporting equipment needs advance notification.

Badminton-, Squasch- or Tennisbag: 10 € per one way

Bicycle: 25 € per one way, packed in soft case.

Bodyboard, Kiteboard (over 140cm of length): 25 € per one way, packed in soft case.

Diving baggage (up to 30 kg, belt without lead, empty bottle): 25 € per one way

Golf baggage : 10 € per one way, in Economy Class only

Hang-glider (up to 30 kg): 25 € per one way

Kayak: 25 € per one way, packed in soft case.

Parachute / paraglider : 25 € per one way, packed in soft case.

Riding (1 pair of boots + saddle): 25 € per one way

Roller sports (1 Skateboard, 1 pair of roller skates or pair of inline skates): 25 € per one way

Ski / Snowboard / Waterski (1 pair of ski or Snowboard + boots): 25 € per one way

Surfboard with sail and mast: 25 € per one way, packed in soft case.


Baggage tips

Hand baggage

> Do not take sharp objects in your hand baggage that will be confiscated at security check. (e.g.: nail file, nail scissors, pocket knife, swiss pocket knife)

> Make sure you take medication, important documents, valuable items and cash in your hand baggage.

> Film material over 1000 ASA/31 DIN should be removed and offered for screening separately. All hand baggage will be checked by x-ray machines.

Checked baggage

> Label your bags with your name, destination address, email address and mobile number.

> Don`t pack any valuables in your checked baggage. Carry important items in your hand baggage.

> Any items over your allowance will be charged as excess baggage.

> Remove all tags or labels left over from previous flights.

> Check that no loose straps or other items hang from the bag.

> Fragile items should be packed to be capable withstanding airport and baggage processes. Light abrasion is likely due to transport to/from the aircraft.

> Notice customs regulations in your arrival country. Per person certain goods are limited in order to avoid payment of duty. (e.g. zigarretes, alcohol)


Dangerous goods

Taking one lighter is permitted :

> for your personal use

> filled with fully absorbed liquid fuel.

Forbidden are lighters in checked bag, zippo lighters, lighters filled with unabsorbed fuel, lighter fuel and fuel refils.

For general safety, the laws of all countries prohibit the transportation of the following goods:

> Briefcases with alarm devices

> Explosives, fireworks, flares

> Pressurized containers containing irritant gases, self-defense sprays and camping gas

> Containers with flammable liquids such as lighter fuel, paint, varnish and cleaning agents

> Items that ignite easily (e.g. matches)

> Substances that emit flammable gases upon contact with water

> Oxidizing substances, such as bleaching powder, peroxides

> Poisonous and infectious substances such as quicksilver, bacteria and virus cultures

> Radioactive materials and items

> Corrosive substances such as acids, alkalis, wet cell batteries

> Strongly magnetic materials


Damaged, delayed and lost baggage

Damage or loss

Should one or more pieces of your baggage be damaged or missing after your arrival, immediately report this to the local RHEINAIR / RheinJet baggage tracing or the local representative so an official report can be filed. You will receive a written confirmation with a document number that you should store safely.

Report damage subsequently

If your notice a damage later at home or at your final destination report it within the legal period of seven days after your last flight at the next responsible office. In addition you have to bring proof that the damage occurred whilst in the care of the airline concerned. As soon as we have received your completed damage description, we will send a written confirmation with a tracing number to you.

Liability and insurance

For all flights with RHEINAIR or RheinJet, the liability for damage, destruction, loss or partial loss and for late delivery of baggage is limited to a cumulative 1,000 Special Drawing Rights (SDR) per journey and person. The SDR is the accounting unit of the International Monetary Fund. 1.000 SDR currently corresponds to about 1.000 €.
